HISTORY: The First Presbyterian Church of Trenton was organized in June of 1847. On the day of its dedication the first building caught fire and was destroyed. The destruction did not deter these early Presbyterians and a second church was soon built. However, the congregation could not keep up payment so their creditors foreclosed and the congregation temporarily disbanded. Soon the Presbyterians organized again as the Hodge Presbyterian Church of Trenton and in 1903 constructed a brick church building on a lot on Chestnut Street. On March 5, 1941, this building was struck by lightening and burned. After the war, property was acquired and the present structure was completed in 1948. In 1968 a second building was constructed known as the Alice May Hoffman Youth Hall.
In 1999, construction was completed to connect the church and the Alice May Hoffman Youth Hall. This added a gathering room next to the sanctuary an elevator for easy access, and a wonderful connected feeling for the members of Hodge.
As we look to the future of our growing church family, we are beginning to dream and plan for another building addition where we can gather for learning, fellowship, Christmas plays and dinners, and the famous and beloved pancake suppers.
Hodge Presbyterian Church is not only a beautiful building, but is a warm and loving congregation. Along with dedicated involvement in all aspects of the church, members are often found helping with many special projects that serve the needs of the community. The sounds of laughter was hear every Sunday from our many children is something that encourages us as we continue to grow together in the Holy Spirit.
Hodge Presbyterian is a special place to be today. It is an alive, active presence in the community with a rich history where Christ is worshipped and people are loved.
